Community and stakeholder engagement

Case study

Client.

Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation (HCCDC)

Services.

Description.

Honeysuckle Ideas was a community and stakeholder engagement program delivered as part of the Honeysuckle Urban Renewal project for HCCDC during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program supported a high-profile divestment by capturing community and stakeholder aspirations for the future use and function of remaining land at Honeysuckle West, helping inform future development decisions.

Engagement approach.

A digital-first, inclusive approach enabled broad participation despite COVID-19 restrictions.

Engagement combined online tools, including a Social PinPoint platform, surveys, digital presentations and eNewsletters, with targeted focus groups and workshops to test and refine priorities. Phone interviews and offline survey options ensured accessibility, with the approach guided by Engagement Institute’s (formerly IAP2) engagement spectrum principles.

The engagement achieved strong participation despite COVID-19 restrictions, with more than 3,000 visits to the online engagement platform and high levels of community input.

A mix of digital and facilitated engagement methods enabled broad and inclusive participation, capturing ideas, testing themes and identifying shared priorities for the future of the Honeysuckle site.

Phone interviews and surveys ensured people without internet access or low digital confidence could still take part. 794 people visited the website. >370 recorded feedback and comments. 294 surveys completed
