The Junction mixed use development

A new mixed-use development is being planned on the corner of Union Street and Kenrick Street, The Junction.

 

If approved the proposal will provide apartments across 7 storeys with a basement carpark. It would also provide a communal covered area and landscaped gardens, along with new retail and commercial spaces at ground level.

Consultation is now open and closes on Friday 12 March 2026.

About the proposal

What’s planned?

  • A 7 storey mixed use development with a mix of 1-bed, 2-bed, 3-bed apartments

  • Secure basement parking for residents

  • Retail and commercial spaces for cafes and shops.

Environmental impact statement

Before the project can go ahead, an environmental impact statement (EIS) will be prepared.  The EIS will be be assessment by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI).

The EIS will consider potential positive and negative impacts during construction and operation and how these might affect the local community.

Key investigations include:

  • traffic and transport

  • noise and vibration

  • air quality

  • ecology

  • heritage (Aboriginal and European)

  • landscape and visual impacts

  • water and soil

  • construction impacts

  • bushfire, contamination and hazards.

Timeline

Late 2025 

Start preparing EIS.

Late 2025 to early 2026

Consultation with stakeholders and community begins.

Mid 2026

Submitt EIS for assessment.

Mid 2026

Public exhibition starts. This is a formal consultation period run by DPHI.

Mid 2026

Collate and respond to submissions received during exhibition.

Late 2025 

Assessment by the HDA. Followed by a recommendation and decision.
